Mertex Is Supporting Our Growth Agenda

Walker Greenbank: "Now we are properly joined up thanks to Mertex", says David Smallridge, managing director of Brands.

For Walker Greenbank which in early February reported total sales of 83m driven by a 10.3 per cent increase in UK sales and a strong performance overseas having a sharp focus on its systems is essential to support growth and satisfy shareholders that it is maximising profitability. As the plc that owns Harlequin, Sanderson, Scion, Anthology, Morris and Co and Zoffany, it is Reflex Datas largest customer, with more than 260 users in the UK and abroad. David Smallridge tells Roll Forward about the clear benefits of the specialist Mertex system. We were attracted to Mertex because it is the only product on the market that focuses on the specific characteristics of our industry.

On the day we went live, the business picked up and maintained all of its operations without interruption and we worked closely with Reflex to fix bugs quickly through the early months following installation. It has undoubtedly made us more operationally efficient and has enabled us to become a more joined up business with the integration of our foreign subsidiaries and the seamless addition of a second warehouse. One area in which Mertex has dramatically improved Walker Greenbanks processes is sampling. Previously, sample stock was not held on the system with Walker Greenbank operating a manual system of reordering based on the stock visible in the racks. Mertex analyses stock figures and usage history bringing efficiencies and considerable cost savings.

Our industry tends to be rather complex, so having a system built around our core needs is a real plus, David explains. He says there was one area where Mertex was initially lacking and that was on the financial side. In order to address this we worked very closely with Reflex to develop a top of the range financial package that not only fulfils our needs but has added greatly to the strength of Mertex. Since installing Mertex we have completely redeveloped all of our brand websites and the system has been fundamental to their enhanced functionality, providing easy data access and allowing global transactions. Overall, David says that Mertex has brought significant competitive advantage in comparison with the companys previous software. Walker Greenbank has also started utilising Reflex Analytics. It clearly provides fantastic data insights and we plan to use it more and more says David.
